3.13 REFUSAL TO ACCEPT CRITICISM, HOW TO RESPOND -- SELF-HELP TACTICS FOR COPING WITH VERBAL ABUSE== #13. How to cope with the abuser not accepting a criticism or seeing a pattern of abusive behavior. If you make a valid point about a pattern of behavior, abusers will deny it was a pattern. An abuser may try to drown you in the specifics of each instance refusing to see any connection. Ask simply that the person at least hear what you have said and that it be considered. Point out that this person has been critical of you in the past but you have listened and tried to do what he/she wanted. No one likes to hear or accept criticism. However, if the person cannot admit to any faults, the two of you should see a counselor. |
