1.00 VERBAL ABUSE SELF-HELP: GETTING STARTED, KEEPING A JOURNAL OR NOTEBOOK

In a love relationship, you may be able to heal the scars and wounds of abuse yourself. You may be able to get an abuser to change his or her behavior with your own self guidance. To start I suggest the following:

=== Buy a notebook and write down random thoughts as they occur to you. If you find that you want to write a journal or an extended memory, get a notebook with dividers so that you can write random thoughts in one part and narrative or journal entries in another part. Spend a quiet time several times a week working in your journal. Some experts have found that a journal can be an effective tool in therapy either as self-help or in conjunction with a therapist. HOWEVER, in self-help if you get to a point where your writings or direction of your thoughts start to deeply trouble you, you should stop and seek the help of a licensed therapist before proceeding further.
