3.06 REPETITIONS, HOW TO RESPOND -- SELF-HELP TACTICS FOR COPING WITH VERBAL ABUSE

== #6. How to cope with hearing the same thing repeated over and over.

Tell the person what he/she keeps repeating; say that you understand and ask that they say something new and not sound like a broken record.

Note: I find that repetitions are a way of being inflexible. The person wants you to understand one thing and really won't listen to anything else or compromise. Repeaters often repeat a bit louder each time as though shouting will help you understand better!

Repetitions can become quite annoying and may be a way to push your buttons to make you angry. See the next section on dealing with anger.
