MEANING: Egotism, self-serving, self-absorbed

RELEVANCE TO ABUSE: Abusers tend to be quite selfish. They are concerned with getting their needs met and not meeting the needs of the people they abuse.

PERSONAL NOTE FROM RICK DOBLE: While selfishness is bad, understanding how to rever oneself and take care of oneself is crucial to psychological health. Abused people often care of others while not caring for themselves. Abusers do just the opposite. Ideally the two can met in the middle.
