1.06 BALANCE -- PSYCHOLOGY ABUSE TERMS, CONCEPTS

==== Balance

MEANING: Emotional stability, equilibrium.

RELEVANCE TO ABUSE: Balance is critical to mental health. Recognizing and dealing with abuse means that the abused are trying to restore balance both to a relationship and also within themselves.

PERSONAL NOTE FROM RICK DOBLE: I find balance to be a central idea or metaphor when dealing with all the conflicting demands of life not just abusive behavior. I try to balance my needs with that of my wife, and to balance work and play, quiet and busy, relaxed and stressful. To be in balance is to be mentally healthy and in a good personal place.

RELATED WORDS AND PHRASES: harmony, proportion, symmetry, integrate
