==== Overreact

MEANING: To react in an overly emotional or violent or other exaggerated manner to something that has occurred.

RELEVANCE TO ABUSE: Look for this pattern in someone you suspect of abusive behavior. Drama queens and people who love psychodrama overreact as part of the way they live. By overreacting abusers can change the subject, get the abused to focus on the abusers' problems and generally change the focus of communication.

PERSONAL NOTE FROM RICK DOBLE: All of us at some time will overreact for one reason or another but, as in other things, abusers may overreact often and it can be a controlling pattern in their behavior.
