1.48 PERMISSION -- PSYCHOLOGY ABUSE TERMS, CONCEPTS==== Permission MEANING: Approval to operate or proceed in a certain psychological manner from a therapist or from a close friend. RELEVANCE TO ABUSE: To go against an abuser might contradict some long held beliefs and values. For example, most people have a hard time contradicting their parents. However, a counselor might give a person permission to be assertive when dealing with an abusive mother or father. PERSONAL NOTE FROM RICK DOBLE: We have all been brought up with certain values, constraints and expectations. To change those is difficult especially individually.
