MEANING: Refusing to deal with an issue or a concern.

RELEVANCE TO ABUSE: Abusers often avoid something rather than face it directly. This accomplishes two things: the more they can do this, the more they can get the abused to focus on their concerns plus they can avoid dealing with their abusive behavior. It is one of the tools in their toolbox to keep their victims at bay.
