1.31 INFLEXIBLE -- PSYCHOLOGY ABUSE TERMS, CONCEPTS

=== Inflexible

MEANING: Rigid, unwilling to change, not willing to bend.

RELEVANCE TO ABUSE: Built into this concept is the notion of no wiggle room. Abusers are inflexible which is why they are like bullies. They cannot adjust or compromise or see both sides of a question. As far as they are concerned there is only one way to do things, their way. They do not have flexibility.

PERSONAL NOTE FROM RICK DOBLE: I believe this is one of the key characteristics of abusers. Virtually all the abusive people in my past have been rigid, their notions were immovable rocks.

RELATED WORDS AND PHRASES: set in concrete, stuck in the mud, unbending, unyielding, ironclad, unalterable, unchangeable, die-hard, stubborn, uncompromising
