1.00 BATTERED MEN, BATTERED HUSBAND -- TYPES AND CATEGORIES OF ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR

==== Battered Men, Battered Husband

MEANING: Wives behaving violently and abusively toward their husbands.

While the phrase 'battered men' relates primarily to physical abuse, other abuse is almost certainly present such as emotional and verbal.

PERSONAL NOTE FROM RICK DOBLE: As man, I can speak more about the 'battered man' problems since I have lived through this. In my experience, women verbally abuse men at least as much as men verbally abuse women. Women in this society generally are more verbal and have a better understanding of the subtleties of relationships and the unspoken feelings that abound. Thus those women who are abusive can be really good at verbal and emotional abuse and also really good at hiding it, denying it and even fooling themselves.

I have been subjected to as much abuse from women (my 1st wife, my step mother) as from men (my brother, my father-in-law). At least as a man, the abuse from the men was easier to take as it was more direct, less subtle and easier to identify. The abuse from women was often indirect, hard to pin down and thus much more effective.

Men also have illusions about women, that they are sweet, loving, caring and nurturing. Therefore it is hard to believe that they can be so destructive and calculating. Yet the two abusive women in my life were both of these.
